Domestic Violence is a Major Issue in the U.S.

Each year over 1 million women become victims of
domestic violence. This means that someone close to the women has inflicted harm and that
harm may be fatal or non-fatal in nature. In the U.S., domestic violence
is a major issue of concern. If you're wondering why, consider the
following:
- The Bureau of Justice Statistics Special Report shows the estimate of 1
million women in its most recent survey. However, experts believe that
that is a very modest estimate since not all victims of domestic violence
ever report their attacks to the authorities.
- A report released over ten years ago by the American Psychological Association
stated that at least 4 million women are harmed in America each year by
a loved one. The AMA goes on to say that one in every three women is assaulted
by a partner during adulthood.
