What Sole Legal Custody Means

|

Are you considering divorce? Do you have children? If you answered yes to both questions, then you need to understand what the term "sole legal custody" means.

When you have sole legal custody of a child, you are able to make all of the decisions regarding your child and his/her future. This includes everything that pertains to your child, including religion, medical care, upbringing and schooling. However, if you and your spouse/partner have joint legal custody, then you both will have an equal say in the child's life.

Keep in mind, just because you both ask for a joint or sole custody arrangement does not always mean that the court will grant the request. Instead, the court will always make a ruling that it feels is in the best interest of the children involved. This ruling may not always be in accordance with the parents' wishes.
