New Bill to Impact Politicians Owing Child Support

|

A new bill in Illinois came about after one politician caused quite a stir. The U.S. representative was able to run for office even though he owes thousands in child support payments.

The new bill would prevent anyone that owes more than $10,000 from running for public office in the state. It was inspired by the politician that reportedly owes over $100,000 in back support to his ex-wife. Despite this large amount, the politician has not found to be in contempt of the court.

Even if the bill is passed, however, the current representative could be voted into office once again. That is because the filing deadline for the next election is this week, well before the bill could be passed.
